My heart just shatters when Elena says it. It’s just so unfair that he feels so unloved and unwanted, that he’s never anyone’s first choice.

Elena better stick to this.

I can’t with all the “poor Damon” comments. Just because he “loves” them does not require either Katherine or Elena to automatically return those feelings. And it certainly does not excuse him punishing Elena for not letting him force himself on her by killing her brother.
